Grossmont College has been named a Champion of Higher Education for Excellence in Transfer by the Campaign for College Opportunity. Grossmont College is one of 27 California Community Colleges and California State University (CSU) campuses recognized for leading the way to simplify transfer for students and implementing the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), an instrumental pathway that streamlines the transfer process from a California Community College to a CSU.
“The Associate Degree for Transfer is a transformative tool that advances our equity and student success rates,” said Grossmont College President Denise Whisenhunt. “By providing a streamlined process in which our students can get guaranteed admission to a CSU, we are creating a path that will help close racial equity gaps and propel students of color to incredible futures.”
Grossmont College is the only community college in San Diego to be recognized as a 2023 Champion of Higher Education and will be celebrated at the Campaign for College Opportunity award ceremony on Nov. 14.
For the past 10 years, the ADT has impacted the lives of more than 490,000 students in the California Community College system and supported their transfer to the CSU system with guaranteed admission to a California State University, according to the Campaign for College Opportunity. The ADT has created increased success rates and completion for LatinX and Black students who choose the ADT as their preferred transfer pathway.
“For nearly a decade, the ADT has given community college students struggling to navigate a complicated transfer maze a clear path to success with a degree to show for their hard work. As colleges grapple with pandemic-induced enrollment declines, we laud the 27 community college and CSU campuses that continue to forge ahead for students by strengthening the transfer pathway and removing unacceptable equity barriers in transfer for Latinx, Black, and first-generation college students across the state,” said Jessie Ryan, executive vice president of the Campaign for College Opportunity and former community college transfer student.
