As part of its ongoing effort to equip the next generation of engineering and construction leaders with the technical expertise necessary to succeed in their careers, global technology company Trimble has partnered with Cuyamaca College to provide lab equipment to Land Survey Program.
This lab will feature an array of advanced data collection and software tools, including GNSS (global navigation satellite system) receivers, tripods, range poles, field computers, angle measuring devices, and more.
The equipment will help prepare Cuyamaca College Land Survey students to be workforce-ready upon completion of the 14-unit program by providing them with hands-on technical knowledge. Students will not only learn about surveying and engineering, but also the latest technology and software needed to become a well-rounded and successful professional land surveyor in today’s marketplace.
“The better trained the student that enters the job market is, the less time it will take to become a higher level field or office surveyor,” said Don Woolley, professor in Cuyamaca’s engineering department. “With the land surveyor shortage still in effect, we need to do everything we can to facilitate the growth of the land surveyor industry and this donation will help do just that.”
The technology is set to expand the college’s capabilities in building information modeling, surveying and georeferencing, scanning, and subdivision design.
The equipment is installed in the classroom and ready for students who can enroll in classes beginning Oct. 17
